PUBLIC ART PROJECTS COME TO HARBOR COUNTRY!

Harbor Country Public Arts Initiative Announces Proposed Municipal Sculpture Installations in the Works for 2010.

New Buffalo, MI. — The Harbor Country Public Arts Initiative, (HCPAI) a not-for-profit organization dedicated to public art is pleased to announce their inaugural plan for sculpture installations in the region.

The four proposed projects of this initiative include installations by renowned sculptors including: Fritz Olsen, Terry Hewlett, Stephen Hokenson, Eric Shaw, Robert Cordesco, and Bruce Niemi. The proposed sites include: New Buffalo Township Hall, Three Oaks Sculpture Garden, New Buffalo Public Library and Chikaming Township Hall.

“We are encouraged by the reception and funding for our project proposals. We are proposing eight sculptures to be installed at four sites by the spring and summer of 2010,” stated Roger Harvey, painter, graphic artist and a board member of the HCPAI. “We have carefully selected high traffic areas in Harbor Country to assure the public will receive the full benefit of this fine public art. Phase I is all about sculpture. We hope to expand to murals and other art forms as we move forward,” Harvey stated.

With all the people who visit Harbor Country each year from across the U.S., Harbor Country is the perfect venue for public art. Most of the sculptures being proposed for Phase 1 will be leased from the artists for two years, after which they will be replaced, purchased, or moved to another location. Additionally, the HCPAI has entered into a partnership with the Krasl Art Center in St. Joseph, Michigan. As part of this partnership, the Krasl will loan two of their sculptures from their permanent collection to the HCPAI for Phase 1.
