THE ANCHOR WIZARD
The Anchor Wizard

Finally, A Simple Boat-anchoring System…That Works!

EVART, MI. — Sherman Oliver is a river rat, a veteran fisherman who spends day after day on the Detroit River trying to catch walleyes. These days his luck is pretty good, thanks to a new product called the Anchor Wizard.
Without moving from his stern seat, Oliver is able to raise and lower a 20-pound boat anchor with one hand while he steers his tiller-mount outboard with the other. By getting the anchor deployed quickly, Oliver gets into the right position faster and easily retrieves the anchor when it’s time to move on.

Boat control is critical in the river’s slick, 10 mph current. The Anchor Wizard helps Oliver make perfect bait presentations near the bottom where walleyes lurk. Pulling the reel handle back a half-turn releases the anchor at a controlled rate. When moved forward a half-turn, a drag locks the reel to fix the anchor’s position. To safely and quickly stow the anchor, Oliver simply turns the hand crank forward a few times.

Safety and comfort are key benefits of the Anchor Wizard. Oliver’s hands stay warm and dry because he never has to use the hand-over-hand method to retrieve his anchor. He doesn’t have to worry about the rope slipping through his hands and because of the innovative clutch system, the handle does not spin when the anchor is falling to the bottom.
“Like the walleyes in this river, we have to move constantly,” Oliver says. “I used to wear out my partners in the front seat. By day’s end their arms ached from having to pull and drop the anchor by hand. Now, thanks to Anchor Wizard, raising and lowering the anchor is quick and easy. I have no trouble getting fishing partners or even handling the job myself.”

Made from anodized aluminum, the product relies on a ball-bearing, slip-clutch drive that is precision-machined for years of use. The wide spool, which holds up to 400 feet of one-quarter-inch diameter rope, is made from forged aluminum. A patent is pending.

Without having to stand up, anglers can now safely position and retrieve all anchor types weighing up to 30 pounds and more. If desired, an optional electric motor will raise and lower the anchor with the flip of a switch. The motor option comes with a manual handle in the event of a bad battery or switch.

Designed for deep- or shallow-water fishing from any boat in salt or fresh water, Anchor Wizard comes with different spool sizes to permit retrieval rates as high as three to one (3 feet of return for each crank of the reel). Mounting options include permanent attachment to boat seats or sides. A portable Junior model even clamps to the gunnels of small boats such as canoes, johnboats and cartoppers.

Prices range from $114.99 for the Anchor Wizard Junior to $329.99 for the complete Wizard System. A limited lifetime warranty applies.

Stillfishing, jigging, drifting and bottom bouncing are angling methods that often involve anchors and anchoring systems. In the Great Lakes, trollers using downriggers often skip bottom with downrigger weights to stir up food and interest bottom-hugging lake trout. Don’t have a downrigger on your boat? Use Anchor Wizard.
Walleye anglers in the Great Lakes and Missouri River reservoirs, striped bass fishermen in Southwestern impoundments, steelheaders who must negotiate swift rivers of the Pacific Northwest, and halibut fishermen in Alaska all rely on anchors to improve presentations and catch more fish.

Whether the quarry is catfish from southern lakes or panfish from northern lakes, Anchor Wizard can help anglers have more fun and success.
